Simon Rees held a Special Interest Day called “Backstage at the Opera” that was attended by 46 members, a good turnout. Simon established a great rapport with the audience and he gave a wonderfully enthusiastic, entertaining and professional presentation.
David Phillips gave a interesting and entertaining talk on “Income and Inspiration: Financial Secrets of the Masters” that was attended by 132 members and five guests.
The Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre is currently holding an exhibition of tapestries from Mount Felix School. This was a project that we funded under our Young Arts scheme.
Dr James Taylor gave an excellent talk, full of interest and detail, on “Ocean Liner Art – Ships that shaped our lives”. The talk was well attended with 158 members and two guests.
Yasha Beresiner gave an excellent talk on “The Art and Beauty of Old Maps of the World” to 121 members and 11 guests. A wealth of maps was presented with sometimes complex symbolism.
|January||Eveline Eaton gave an excellent talk about “Dresden Today – Art and Architecture”. The talk was a good introduction to Dresden for those who went on our Dresden tour.|
|February||Pamela Halford gave a very good talk about the artists Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassatt. We would like to aplogise to our members for the problem with the projector. This was not the fault of the speaker and has now been repaired.|
|March||Dominic Riley gave an outstanding talk on “The Book as Art – Form and Function in Creative Book Structures”.|
|April||Peter Medhurst gave an excellent talk titles title “I am the very model: Parodies of Victorian Society”.|
|May||Dr Twigs Way gave an excellent talk titled “Gardens in Wartime Art:Patriotism and Renewal” to an audience of 137 members.|
|June||Barry Venning gave an excellent talk titled “A Child of 6 could do it” to an audience of 146 members.|
|July||Sarah Kelly gave a good talk on Breughal’s scenes of country life to an audience of 126 members and guests.|
|September||Toby Faber gave an excellent talk on “Cremona and the Golden Age of Violin Making”. The 134 members present felt he was a very welcoming speaker.|
|October||Angela Findlay gave an excellent talk on “The Role of Art in the Cycle of Crime, Prison and Re-Offending” to an audience of 148 members and guests.|
|November||Jon Cannon gave a detailed talk on “The Secret Language of Sacred Spaces: Religious Architecture of the World” to an audience of 149 members and 10 guests.|
|December||The Festival Supper this year was given by Bertie Pearce on “Wonder Worker and the Art of Illusion” to 82 members who thoroughly enjoyed the event.|
