We were sorry there were not more members attending our July lecture when Dr Laurence Shafe (past Chairman and our Webmaster) came to our rescue, owing to Peter Scott’s illness and incapacity to give his lecture “Painting at the Edge – British Artists’ Coastal Colonies”. We look forward to welcoming Peter in the future.
Laurence’s lecture was excellent and highly acclaimed by those members able to watch it. It is, however, available on You Tube. (The link is available on our website – sue.hughes) know if you were unable to log in.
There is no lecture in August, but we have two exciting Special Interest Events to offer in September and December (via Zoom).
The first one is :
“GREAT TARTS IN ART: High Culture and the Oldest Profession” LINDA SMITH
10.30 – 12.50 Thursday, 16 September, 2021 via Zoom (2 one-hour lectures with a 20 minute break)
This is followed in December :
“FROM TCHAIKOVSY TO TIN PAN ALLEY – Uplifting music for Christmas” SANDY BURNETT
2pm – 3pm Thursday, 2 December, 2021 via Zoom
The cost for each event will be £10 per person. If you would like to attend, please contact Alison Lornie (alison.lornie or 01932 845372); Alison will give you details of how to make your payment and will reserve a place for you and, once your payment has been received, will confirm your reservation. A day or two before the event, a Zoom link will be sent to all participants. At the moment we are not able to book the Riverhouse Barn for our usual Special Interest Events but very much hope to be able to invite you in 2022.
On 9th September we have a Zoom lecture “A GARDEN LIKE NO OTHER: EDWARD JAMES & LAS POSAS” and on 14th October, Mark Hill (Antiques Roadshow) presents “UNDRESSING ANTIQUES”, a persuasive introduction into buying antiques, and integrating and using them in today’s homes.
On 11 November, Simon Inglis presents “PLAYED IN LONDON”. Charting the heritage of London’s rich sporting and recreational heritage to life. Wembley, Wimbledon and Lords are known around the world but sports and games have always been played in London.
We do hope you will be able to join us. Meanwhile, we thank you for your support in these challenging times and look forward to seeing you.
