On Thursday 7 December some of our members enjoyed the “Festive Supper” at the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre when we were entertained by Annie Gray, one of Britain’s leading food historians (who also works with The National Trust, Historic Royal Palaces and the BBC, as well as The Arts Society). Annie gave a humorous and fascinating talk, entitled “Mrs Beeton’s Christmas” reflecting the celebrations and, sometimes, turmoil over the Twelve Days of Victorian Christmas, including recipes in Isabella Beaton’s book of “Household Management” published in 1861.
We still have some vacancies on our Waiting List so if you have not renewed for 2018, or would like to join the Society as a new member, we would be pleased to hear from you. (margaret.sale@ theartessocietywalton.co.uk or 01932 840583). We have an exciting programme of Lectures, Visits and Special Interest days for the New Year and our first lecture on 11 January 2018 is entitled “Smiths, Singers and Shapeshifters: Celtic Art of the British Isles” with Justine Hopkins. We hope to see you there.
In the meantime, Season’s greetings to you all.
